About Us

The „Campingplatz Saaletal“ in the village of Kloschwitz is a small camp site right in the middle of the gorgeous national park ”Naturpark Unteres Saaletal” (page in German only). We – that is the family Rothmeier – have been running the site since 1998. From then on a lot of things have happened: Instead of a small snack booth there is a modern and cosy restaurant now. The entire infrastructure of the site was renewed such that energy and water is available at every spot. The whole lighting system and all paths were rebuilt. Also there is a small jetty now so canoes, rowing boats and larger motorboats can land effortlessly. The sanitary facilities are currently being renovated. Just along the way we commit ourselves to increase the touristic attractiveness and to the promotion of the national park, the river Saale, the region between Saale, Unstrut and Harz as well as the entire state Saxony-Anhalt. Our aim is that more people worship the beauty and uniqueness of nature in this region.

Most of our short-term visitors during summertime are bicycle tourists who make a trip along the river following the Saale cycle path and water sports enthusiasts who discover the river on canoes or motorboats. Some visitors come to explore the nature in Kloschwitz’ hills or in the surrounding area on forest walks or they come to fish in the river. Also the children can’t be left out in vacation – apart from the neighbouring playground with monkey bars and a carousel the children can enjoy our petting zoo, splash pools, a small football field and a volleyball field as well as table tennis. Teenagers will like to visit the riding stables in one of the next villages.

There are up to 30 spots for longterm-camping. Mostly locals from the cities around live there at the weekends to flee from hectic and stress into the lush green of the landscape.

Right next to the camp site there is the village Kloschwitz (page in German only), where you can walk to. You can choose the way across the suspension bridge as well. From this quiet village you can hike further on to the village of Beesenstedt through a beautiful valley with a small creek at the bottom, a deep forest and flowering meadows.
For a relaxed (half-)day-trip the historical town Wettin in about 7 km distance is well-suited. The more than 1000 years old town offers many attractions, like e.g. the castle, the Bismarckturm (page in German only) or the Templerkapelle (page in German only) in Mücheln. If you like to, we can make reservations in one of the traditional restaurants in Wettin which offer a wide range of typical hefty German food.
For daytrips by car the foothills of the Harz offer beautiful towns like Mansfeld or Wernigerode, the Luther Memorials in Eisleben as well as the mining region Mansfelder Land.

You are welcome to bring your dogs – please leash them to avoid conflicts.

Wifi is available for a low fee around the restaurant and partially on the camp site as well.
